Docklands Roof Garden
Probably larger than the average terrestrial London garden this roof terrace offered these clients the opportunity to have a fabulous outdoor space for entertaining and in which their children could play. With those considerations in mind the garden was divided into two areas, dining and “lounging” divided by large deep planters full of meadow style perennial planting. A pergola structure was constructed over the dining area to provide shade, shelter from the wind off the river and privacy from an adjacent block. With small children in mind no planters were positioned within one meter of the railing to avoid the risk of kids climbing on planters and falling. An unforeseen advantage of this was the effect of a track for tricycle riding around the perimeter of the roof terrace.
