Manhattan Roof Terrace

This garden is actually divided in two. Two long thin roof terraces run along this prestigious East Village development. One leads off the main reception room, and was designated as the public entertaining space. The other leads off the bedrooms, but is also visible as one enters the apartment.

Below the 'before' photos

This terrace is divided into two, with private sun bathing space outside the master bedroom, and a wall mounted water feature and courtyard off the entrance. The water feature falls into a large shallow pool which was especially designed as a paddling pool in the hot summer months. The tiles of the pool are the same as those in the master bedroom, providing a link between the interior and exterior. The clients wanted lush planting, which is difficult in such a narrow space, but with careful plant selection and layering of planters the maximum depth of planting has been achieved. The following year these clients bought a large country house with a one acre garden and pool the landscaping of which has recently been completed; photos to follow this summer. Next page
